My daughter just had open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. It's amazing how well she's recovered. Kids are resilient, and deal with this type of thing so much better then adults.
The fact that we have the ability to keep someone alive while their heart is opened up and repaired speaks to how far medicine has come in recent years.
That kid is adorable!

I don't know, my sister is an electrical engineer and she's pretty damn good. In fact, more then half the women in my family have engineering or math degrees.

My dad actually did teach my siblings and I how to clean. He called his lessons "inservices". He also taught us how to make hydrogen balloons using lye, and how to blow smoke rings with dry ice in your mouth.

Me too, I know kids like in the post. So I'm super grateful my kids are more mellow and generally pretty good. My youngest usually sleeps in till 9, and both will stay asleep even if I vacuum during their naps. They listen pretty well too.
They are both avid nudists unfortunately. Once, my now 4 year old jumped out of the tub when the doorbell rang, and answered it to a very surprised fed-ex delivery guy.
And I feel like a hair-cutting incident is in our future.

Saying something like "this type of behavior against women saddens and disgusts me" in response to rape or domestic violence. Or even replace the word "women" with "anyone" and your now including all victims. It shows your support of those victims, and shows that you really aren't "one of those men" rather then just claiming to be.

I absolutely agree the problem is self entitled jerks. A mysoginist and a mysandrist are both narcissistic jack-asses who treat others poorly. Same with racists, religious zealots, and really any bigot.
The reason I personally don't like when someone says "but not all men/women/anything" is because this type of interjection is meant to take away from what is being stated or written. When you say it in relation to any issue, your more conserved with feeling like someone is including you in a generalization, then the issue at hand.
Saying "not all men" means you care less about the issue at hand then distancing yourself from the actions of those who share your gender.
Don't take away from a discussion or article or presentation by creating a tangent about yourself.
If you are a man who "isn't like that", instead state your support for women. State why you're different. Show that you are, rather then just saying it.

I've found that responding to chain mail with a brief explanation and a link to snopes.com takes you off of a lot of people's mass email lists. People just don't seem to like feeling like an idiot for believing Internet nonsense.

The problem with wiretapping, is that it's fundentally and morally and ethically wrong. It doesn't matter that I or you have nothing to hide. It's invasive and no one can guarantee that the information gained won't be used against citizens.
In the case of wiretapping the German chancellor, it's such a huge breach if trust and common decency. Imagine if it came out that Putin had been wiretapping USA congressmen. The outrage and response would be huge! But our government thinks it has a right under the excuses of protecting citizens.
Part of the point is that it was hidden. We've already learned in recent years of terrible things the CIA has done to "protect" the USA. It begs the question of what else is going on that we don't know about? At what point do the ends not justify the means? At what point does the USA resemble a rouge bully that does whatever it wants and always finds a way to justify its poor behavior.

I wish I could believe that no laws are passed that don't knowingly hurt american citizens.
One example is the whole war on meth. For almost 30 years now, people have been working to pass laws for strict regulation of pseudo-ephedrine and ephedrine. Each time they got close, lobbyists from big-pharma would use their power/money/influence to change the proposed law just enough to render the proposed law useless. (Although some ground has been gained.) Even though the lobbyist know they are perpetuating the problem, (and in fact have lead to Mexican and Colombian meth overwhelming the USA), they have placed the drug companies bottom line above the American people.
He'll, Dick Cheney MADE MONEY off the war in the Middle East. Talk about a conflict of interest.
