I've heard parents use the police as a threat, and I hate it. It's just a bad as parents who tell their kids that unless they behave, the doctor will give them a shot, or the dentist will their teeth.

I've had several friends that were cops, and worked a lot with the police when i worked in an ER. From my experience, 1/4 of cops are jerks, but only a small number of the jerks are actually bad people/cops. Most in law enforcement are really good people. It just sucks that the bad ones are so bad, they really outshine a lot of the good ones.

I think people think physics PHD's make more money then they do. Unless you're part of research that has a patent or you're research is bought by a company, or are able to get an amazing grant, it's not a big money maker.
(My grandfather has a physics PHD and did his thesis/grad student work with developing man made diamonds, but since he was a student, his work never made him money, only GE and his professors did.)

Nope, 90% of my job is done on a computer, with internet access. I also do mostly online banking and shopping. I even need computers/internet for my oldest daughters school, and my other daughters therapy.

My brother in law had a hard time stopping at stop lights and stop signs when he got back from Iraq. If you stopped moving when driving, you were easier to attack. The skills and mind set if a soldier can be destructive when applied to life outside of war, but they're really hard to leave behind.

As someone who likes to debate and talk about interesting and complicated topics, this would actually get me interested.

I think you're right. It's not that kids who are dressed trendy, or themselves want to dress current, are bad or wrong. It's about children wearing clothing that sexualizes them. Let kids wear what ever they want. But put your young child in a mini skirt and a tube top, and im going to wonder about your parental judgment.

A lot of domestic terrorism has happened in the USA from Christian extremist groups. Timothy McVeigh for one. Also, the KKK was founded on a Christian belief system.

While Jews were a group that was targeted, many others were targeted as well. The basis for the genocide was ethnic cleansing and eugenics. Judaism is a religion, but it's also an ethnic group. Those of Slavic decent were destroyed just a much as those of Jewish decent. The first people targeted by Nazi's were the handicaped and those with mental illnesses.
Wars are fought for power. Religion, land, money, etc, are reasons people give for war. But all war comes down to power and control.

No, some people must be attracted to cockiness, or else it would be a trait lost a long time ago via evolution.
I happen to be someone who is a bit repulsed by cockiness.

Due to vitamin C huh? I'll tell my friends with endometriosis and poly cystic ovarian syndrome to eat some more oranges. That should cure those genetic problems.

From my own experience, when a man is told that his time is not valued when it is spent in the home, and that his only value comes from making money, he will then not value those who do spend their lives raising children and keeping house.
I'm sure other people have had experiences that contradict my own.
Anyway, both mothers and fathers have got to teach their sons how to be a future parent and partner. All children should be taught how to cook, clean, and take care of a child, just like all children should be educated and encouraged to find something they are good at and can make money in.
The only time in my life that I've ever felt oppressed simply because I was female, was not at work or at school or out in the world. It was while I was married.

I actually really like what she has to say. to be honest, I feel like women in society are very much equal to men. It's within the home where there are problems of respect and unequal treatment. Most families these days need two working parents to survive. With two parents working full time, rarely are the house hold choirs and parenting responsibilities shared equally. Part of the problem is that men have been told that they have no place with children, that they cannot teach and nurture. That they are not successful unless their success is in work and money. Men have been told for a long time that their role is not in the home. So now that we have families who need two workers, we now need to parents to split house hold duties. And it isn't happening. Many men were never taught how to cook, clean, or care for a child. And while they may be willing, no knowledge or confidence in their ability means they continue to not participate and help their partners.
