There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part.

Really? Lol, people told me that I reminded them of her- and I was always a bit put off, like "oh, so my riot grrl music and strong ways scare you, do they? Well, DO THEY?"

I definitely agree in teaching empowerment and acceptance along with anti-bullying bylaws, and as far as I know that is what is being implemented in schools now. I think we need to strengthen both programs to reflect the changes in maturity and access to information that kids have now, but taking the responsibility from the bully and shifting it to the target, saying if they had better confidence and self esteem it would not effect them is not the way to go. Bullying can tear down even strong people.

What excuses and lack of confidences are we teaching them? The low income kid who is teased? The Arab kid who is teased for his background? The gay kid who is teased for his sexual identity? What can you teach them to stop the teasing? Or do you think stopping the actual bullies would be more effective?

Passing anti-bullying bylaws deals out consequences for the bullies, those who do the harm. To say people need to "man up" is blaming the victim and putting the focus on them, when that falls to counseling or other aspects to handle. Why would you take away the consequences from the perpetrator of the action, the same way you would punish a cheater on a test, a kid caught with cigarettes? Why is it different for bullies?

We'll never stop weapons, cheating, or drug's from appearing in schools either. Should we stop inflicting consequences for these actions too?

That's not something I would laugh at, but "My First Prison Tattoo" or "Gang Sign Grin" or even "Solitary Selfies"

I love this, we would have a whole new wave of "faces," instead of duck face it would be "drop the soap" face, etc..

While I almost spit out my coffee at your 'Four G's', I believe what they are referring to is the slew of republican quotes on rape that were made in reference to abortion, when legislation was being introduced that would have no exception for rape or incest. Although there have been many, many more quotes minimizing the impact of rape by politicians before and since, so many republican politicians bungled statistical, actual, and any kind of medical reality in their quotes that national attention was given. Here are some examples:

Rape is always rape- you are misinformed. Sex with someone who is too intoxicated to give willing consent is absolutely rape, it disturbs me that you seem to think it's not. Any sex that happens without the clear, uncoerced, and willing consent of both partners is rape. This is not difficult to understand, and when people have issue with the definition of having sex with a willing partner, that is the bullshit.
Consensual sex is not a feminist invention, it's a moral and common sense idea. Why it seems to anger people I don't understand.

Lol, I think the only way to make cocoa is to mix after heating the water- at least to my knowledge. Some times I'll stick some marshmallows in and nuke it again for a few seconds, but for any other hot beverage I use a coffee pot. Kind of a steel kettle, I guess :-)

This was a fantastic moment, it was something so important to be said and the legislation he put forward was pivotal in providing support for survivors. Thank you for posting this :-)

Something to think about 10 comments

This whole societal expectations on men, the whole masculinity complex is something that is overlooked too much. People talk about how negative it is for boys to be seen as having seemingly feminine qualities, sensitivity, compassion, etc.- how insulting them by calling them girls, pussies, and the like is rampant- but the long term consequences aren't really ever thought of. Gender roles hurt everyone.
