When D. Pedro came back to Portugal, he was furious. He killed the men who were responsible and even burned their hometowns. He made the rest of his father days a living hell. He even declared Inês to be a queen after her death. They are now resting together in Mosteiro the Alcobaça: their tombs are really beautiful so check them out! they are not in the same tomb though: D. Pedro wanted them to be separeted but in front of one another, this way, when they resurrect, once they get up, the first thing they´ll see is each other. It´s a very beautiful love story but quite sad.

ok people time for a short history class: D. Pedro was married to Constança of Spain but he never loved her, instead he loved her companion Inês de Castro, a bastard daughter. The Castro family was a powerful spanish family and the portuguese king, Afonso IV, didn´t want this family to compromise the portuguese independence. When Constança died, Pedro asked the pope to marry Inês: we don´t know the pope`s answer but, even if he was against it, D. Pedro started to live with Inês and with their three kids as a normal family. During this time a war started in Spain and the Castro were involved. Inês asked Pedro if he could help them. For political reasons, D. Afonso, while his son was away, decided to kill Inês and even her children, with the help of 3 other men. Inês begged the king to spare her children, which he did, but she still ended murdered in a painful way: they slit her throat and she bled to death.

I´m studying History in college and I can tell you that it´s amazing! It´s not boring or dull, you just have to get lucky with the kind of teacher you get. My Medieval Politics History teacher is great and it´s always telling us fun facts and making puns.

during times of war young boys used to be recruited a lot(more like forced but history text books don´t mention that). My grandfather fought in the Colonial War( PortugalxColonies): he was sent to Angola, when he was around his twenties, but he said that when he was leaving the port to enter the ship, he saw a lot of mothers hugging their kids. A lot of them didn´t come back. My grandfather told me lots of them exploded on the mine fields and their families receibed coffins with rocks instead of their bodies.

you have to remember that a lot of soldiers started their duty when they were around 13-15: war made boys grow up faster then they should
