Feminism is defined as the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. It comes from an era where women were actually oppressed, and although that may be less relevant in today's world, the basis of the movement, aka equality, still runs true. I'd argue that feminism is great because it means equality. but there are extremes and those people aren't feminists, but feminazis, for lack of a better term.
