It defininitely cool to do that. It shows that the girl likes the guy to begin with, and guys like knowing they're loved. At my school we have a Sadie Hawkins dance where the girls ask the guys, and its a lot smaller than homecoming but the way people act and dance is more sincere if that makes sense.
