Speaking of which, I hear that the origin of the christmas tree stems from pagan sacrificing of children, and had nothing to do with Christianity (kind of like easter) but I haven't researched it.

18 - 9 = (10 + 8) - 9 , (1 in the tens column, 9 in the units column)
= (10 - 9) + 8 , (addition and subtraction are done at the same time)
= 1 + 8 , (10 - 9 = 1)
= 9
