1. Amazon has several controversial tax deductions and should be it's own topic. Getting into it will stay this conversation into something unrecognizable.
2. We actually have too many children already and tax cuts related to having more children shouldn't exist. The problem with social security is that it was created in a unsustainable way. Baby boomers were young and working and social security was handing out money as fast as it was bring it in, knowing that it would have less workers are more retirees in the future, but not taking any account for it. And now it's a problem. But this was predictable and more children is not a sustainable solution for the problem.
Also, making it easier to afford to adopt children is a good idea because there are so many children who need homes and parents who want to adopt but can't because the cost of adopting children is actually higher than having your own children.

Once your playlist is set (it will need to have a number of songs/audiofiles that will fit on your CD-RW. They don't have a lot of memory space). Your software should have a button that allows to burn the playlist. This will vary slightly between the options, but it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
Lastly: Label you CD-RW somehow so that you know which one this is later. Otherwise you will find yourself flipping through your CD case going "I have no idea what songs are actually on these."

In case there are still those on the site that don't know and want to: You obtain a CD-RW. I don't know if you can still get these in stores as I haven't looked in a while, but Amazon definitely has options. (You used to be able to get them at Walmart and Dollar General and all over). Then you put that CD into a computer with a disc writer that can handle CD-RW. This is information you will need to look up in your own computer. It was very common in computers made in the early 2000's. I don't actually know how common it is today. I haven't had occasion to check in a while. Finally you will need a software that can write CD-RW. There are many free options. I usually just used Windows Media player, but there are actually better options if you are concerned about quality (I was a teenager with cheap headphones so, it didn't matter so much to me). It works slightly differently from software to software, but its usually fairly simple to create a playlist.

But whether or not you have a wedding and whether or not you get religiously married if you want the legal benefits of marriage you should need to be legally married in a separate ordeal.
Good point 55 comments

So, the fact that marriage has tax benefits is part of the problem. But I actually think the biggest problem is the lack of distinction between religious marriage and political marriage. Governments cannot dictate whether or not you are married under the eyes of your God or your church. Nor can churches dictate whether you are legally married in the eyes of the government. However due to the two happening at the same time and often by the same people, (priests/pastors who are ordained to marry people legally) we often think of them as the same thing. Legal marriage should require a trip to the court house, a consenting party and a witness. Legal marriage shouldn't actually be allowed at Weddings. Weddings should be an entirely separate ordeal that people can do if they should so chose. I think it's fine that weddings have vows and religious leaders and that they can make you religiously married. I don't even have a problem with some churches refusing to marry homosexuals.

I have since witnessed plenty of discrimination towards people with disabilities. I imagine her life could have been much much worse very easily.

Usually if a child has an electric chair it's because they literally do not possess the ability to move the chair on their own. I knew a girl growing up who couldn't move a chair her own accord and didn't have an electric chair. Someone else had to push her chair everywhere she went. Without an electric chair she didn't have basic autonomy of movement. She was lucky in the fact that she was well liked and usually if she wanted to go somewhere people around her were very willing to take her. However I also can remember that she was accustomed to "just being along for the ride". Other kids would often ask "Anon, you want to go to x place with us?" But the adults in her life often just took her wherever and she just accepted this. (I assume because it was normal to her).
And she wasn't ever taken anyplace that was unsafe for her as far as I know. She seemed happy and had friends. But I'm fairly certain that was some luck, some personality, and some environment.

If you are paying for college yourself it can be avoided with a little preparation. Find out what books you need, order them from Amazon. Buy other school supplies. Never go to class without the things you need.
If you can afford it try to buy as much of this stuff as you can and then reimburse yourself when your refund comes in. Unfortunately this is less of an option depending on your source of college aid and your financial resources.
I wish more stairs would incorporate wheelchair access 3 comments
thekaylapup · 5 years ago
This seems clever at first. But realistically someone in a wheelchair would probably have to fight pedestrian traffic should there be very many people on the stairs.
And while a thin young person in a wheelchair might be moved for easily so long as traffic isn't too congested, many people look at middle aged overweight persons in wheelchairs as "only in the chair because of laziness " even if they have good reason for the wheelchair. And people tend to look at "lazy" wheelchair users as "entitled" and "can wait for the rest of us".
And that's not even accounting for the number of people who simply are not simpathic to disabilities. Some even feel that the disabled should not exist within "normal" society.
Yesterday I was with a disabled woman who wanted to say hello to another woman who was walking by the park we were at. The other woman literally crossed the street to avoid the disabled woman I was with. And the disabled woman was so disappointed. She just wanted to say hello.

Oh. Yeah there is no way they mean °C. That would be so hot. That's about 140° F. That's dangerously hot.

I am assuming this are degrees Fahrenheit. 60° is definitely a little chilly, however it's not actually that cold when the relative outside temperature is so cold. 60° F is about 15.56° C. It's the sort of temperature where you buddle up if it's that cold in September (northern hemisphere) but stop wearing your jacket when it's that warm in March.

Yeah. University bookstores usually get their things from suppliers, but most stores do. Getting things directly from a supplier usually costs the least amount of money. Every person involved in the chain of selling things takes a cut. Less people often means cheaper items. Usually in order to by direct from a supplier requires a minimum order, making it impractical for people to buy directly from the supplier. Retailers however usually do buy directly from the supplier.

Disclaimer: I am NOT an igloo or survival expert and someone with more experience should be consulted before building an igloo with intent to use it for shelter.
That being said, from what little research I have done, there are multiple ways to vent an igloo, and they have their pros and cons, however sufficient ventilation is very achievable so long as the hole(s) is(are) big enough.
One common option is to vent a hole right in the center at the top. Air current actually keeps snow from blocking up your hole even as snow piles onto the igloo (I understand this has been witnessed with snow accumulation of up to a foot) From what I have read, your door drifting closed is actually a much bigger issue than your vent drifting closed.
TLDR: Vents seem to work fine.

Actually it has more to do with the fact that college bookstores exploit the fact that many students can buy supplies only from the bookstore with grant money, loan money, or scholarships.

More money for convenience makes sense. But double the price of an item is excessive by anyone's standards. Twelve times the price is ridiculous.

A Dogs worry 3 comments
thekaylapup · 5 years ago
So, I can't speak for all dogs or even really particularly well for any dogs, however I do have some observations that seem contrary.
Many dogs react differently to their humans depending on their humans mood. Some dogs appear to posses great empathy, being bouncy and excited when their human returns it a good mood, but calmer and more cuddly when their human arrives home upset. If we assume that dogs, like humans, tend to believe that others enjoy the same things they enjoy, then your dog probably does not believe you went on a long walk when you come home stressed, tired, or upset.
Now, I realize there is a difference between recognizing one's mood is different and responding differently and understanding one's mood. And I really cannot speak at all on what dogs understand. It simply seems unlikely given what I do understand that dogs believe their humans are off having fun at their stressful and tiring jobs.

I get the lifestyle thing. Even though my life is not quite that hectic remembering to grab the grocery bags is still a conscious effort and I realize that this is harder in some circumstances.
The fact that bringing your own bags means bagging your own groceries seems very strange to me. Obviously it's a regional difference. I do think it would help more people be willing to use reusable bags if that wasn't the case. Here, when I bring my bags into some places I am thanked for bringing a bag, and the cashier still bags my groceries.

At least where I live (granted bags are free) grocery checkers will use your bags if you hand them the bags. I assume that's not true where you live?

No bag isn't a realistic option for shopping trips when you need to get a weeks worth of groceries. And getting less than that means more trips which requires more gas. So well technically yes, no bag produces the least waste, the reusable bags are the best option realistically available in our circumstance.

Maybe not- but we as a species rely on on another for survival and convenience all the time. We have since the beginning of civilization. And the fact is we don't have a fair and balanced economy and we never have. And probably never will. However providing basic care to everyone can help even things out and allow people to have better lives across the board regardless of socioeconomic status.
