I agree that Vegeta is an important main character of DBZ, but you are forgetting another Chris Sabat character. Piccolo changes (in comparison to Dragon Ball) and is shown to be very compassionate to Gohan, and shows respect an support to Goku and the rest of the Z-Fighters. And then finally, Gohan. Gohan begins in DBZ and obviously grows the most as we watch his entire life and see him deal with struggles and death.

Bibbidi, Babidi, Buu. Dragon Ball Z makes so much more sense now.
