No one is telling them not to get a second opinion. These are literally the first 3 results I could find. Some say YES, some say NO. Please never put a tampon in a wound. I’ve heard so many guys say this. It’s sounds like a good idea but the reason tampons work for woman is they double in size to soak up stuff. And I doubt shoving a firm cylindrical object that doubles in size into your wound is going to be helpful.

I think they probably changed some things in the costume because of the backlash. If it was in the beginning stages, there still would have been development. I still have hopes.
