Maybe I just happened to be working with a bunch of condescending arseholes, but none of the women in that lab ever did anything like that. Also, has anyone noticed that it's almost always men who quickly say: "Oh mansplaining doesn't exist." Whereas if you ask a woman, she most likely has at least one story of it happening to her? Just food for thought.

If mansplaining doesn't exist then I must've hit the statistical improbability jackpot when I worked in a lab with 15+ men who would try to explain my field of study to me pretty much daily (even though I had more advanced degrees than most of them).

I've done work with a few shelters and we had to turn people away because there simply wasn't enough room, especially during winter. So no, there aren't always shelters they can go to to get off the streets.

It's not so much that the roads were neglected, just that there was so much snow that nothing could be kept clear enough for smooth travel. It seems like the conservative media decided to blame the policy instead of the fact that it was the first big snow of the season and the plows couldn't keep up. I do think it's a bit of a silly policy but a surprising number of Swedes walk and bike even in 30cm of snow because we just don't give a fuck.

What happened with the snow clearing was basically a politician decided that since most pedestrians and cyclists are women and children, the pavements and cycle paths should be cleared to allow for equal access to the city when it's snowing. Nobody is really talking about this in Sweden except for conservative bloggers who decided that this policy came from feminists when it's really just some idiot politicians.

That was the biggest snowfall we've had for 111 years in Sweden. Any notion you or the conservatives have about cause and effect goes out the window when you realise that nothing was clear because there was simply too much snow.

I used to work in a lab where if you did something dumb your clipboard would be stealthily swapped out with one that read: "ABSOLUTE FUCKING IMBECILE" in marker on the back but was otherwise indistinguishable from your real clipboard. The longest it took someone to notice was 8 days (he did something extremely idiotic).

Schizophrenia is a break with reality, where patients see/hear things that aren't there. They can have periods where they act strangely and periods where they seem normal, but this isn't related to having multiple personalities because the patient is themself the whole time.

This post is obviously a little misleading. These outfits are only seen April-October. In the winter, we're allowed a much warmer outfit of booty shorts and crop tops.

Jenga affected by 9/11 5 comments

The graph shows an apparent correlation between sales of the game 'Jenga' and the attack on 9/11 in 2001. Apparently people didn't want to buy a game where the point is destroying a tower.

Sorry, but your strict, semantic analysis of "person of colour" is not the way the rest of the world defines the term. Like with many words and phrases, the widely-accepted societal interpretation is more correct than the literal linguistic definition. Also, given your violent rebuke, I'd say you're the one allowing tumblr to affect you.

"Coloured person" has historically been used in derogatory ways (i.e. "coloureds"). "Person of colour" is preferable because it emphasizes a person's humanity and individuality over this certain characteristic. Similar to how it's more polite to say "the man with autism" rather than "the autistic man."

Man with Fluent Aphasia. Effortless speech with impaired meaning 6 comments

Usually aphasia affects both written and oral language pathways. Though, I had a case where the patient was speaking nonsense, but his written language was fairly coherent except he almost never wrote words with less than 4 or 5 letters. Disorders like aphasia that result from damage to the brain affect everyone differently based on the damage and other factors.
