So basically Nicolas Cage? 12 comments
wmonohon · 10 years ago
The Cage does not possess infinite money. With infinite money one could buy anything for sale at whatever price it was offered at. For instance, a person sells a paper clip for ten million dollars, and the infinite mass of money immediately capitulates to that price. Thus everyone has access to so much money, which they obtain from selling grossly-overpriced products to the individual in possession of infinite money, that rapid inflation occurs and money becomes so common that it no longer has any value. A person with infinite money could break the very concept of money. He/She could also create an infinitely large black hole.

Upon seeing his collection of rare and valuable cars now painted in flamboyant pink, the man fell to his knees and cradled his head. After holding that position for several minutes he whispered to himself "this is perfect."

So you are a callous asshole. Fine. But what you fail to understand is that some people actually use the internet as a place of expression where they pour themselves into whatever they say. They post clever witticisms or intelligent arguments, which, based on your recent comment activity, you have yet to do. Ultimately you are judging people by your own standards, which makes you arrogant.

What if they are not actually clothes pins, but are instead part of the drawing and this is a professionally-done example of three-dimensional art?

I agree. The motions of that cat are uncomfortably similar to those of gremlins. Just as a precaution, I recommend not feeding that cat after midnight.

But you just told me I am a beautiful girl, and that I do not need to change myself, and that I should ignore and even separate myself from those who would say otherwise. And then you tell me to apply cosmetics, presumably to augment my appearance. Is that not cognitive dissonance?!

Magic and stuff 26 comments

Well at least some of these people have an affinity for science. I mean, wizards have access to a seemingly infinite energy source along with the ability to warp the concepts of time and space. But do you see them having the largest space race of all human history, or using magic to unravel the secrets of the atom, or even combating the effects of global warming? No, they make dungbombs and extendable ears and hats that make your entire head go invisible. (Yes, I am criticizing a fictional civilization for its lack of involvement in the betterment of our society. )

But if the crocodile returned the child, then the mother guessed incorrectly, therefore it must eat the child. But if the crocodile eats the child, then the mother guessed correctly, therefore it cannot eat the child. But if the crocodile does not eat the child, then the mother guessed incorrectly therefore it must eat the child. But if the crocodile . . . .

Or it could say she guessed wrong and eat the child.
I believe she is supposed to say "you will not return my child," which generates a paradox in which the crocodile can neither keep the child nor do anything else. Technically, the child is not saved.

But that still is giving a child – a creature which is much too immature and underdeveloped to understand causality – a choice bearing immense ramifications.
Also, why did the tree contain all the knowledge? If God really did make a lesson plan for his creations, then why not create a tree which only contained the next lesson? That way, if the children ate from it – which God knew would be damaging to them – they would only get a nasty shock, and they would learn from it.

Well I have a friend who identifies as Catholic, and he believes a similar thing. For him, there is an intermediate place called purgatory into which all people go; and the time they spend there is proportional to their crimes in the secular life. When a person's sentence is paid, and he/she is fully cleansed, he/she can move along to heaven. To him, hell still exists, but it is only populated by a sliver of the human populace that is totally beyond redemption.
