You have to follow the entire thing not cherry pick the good stuff and throw away the bad. You're making your own moral system that way. You might as well have and further develop your own rather than going to an ancient book for advice.

I used to follow your religion I was studying to become a minister. I went out to find reasons that supported or justified my beliefs but not only did I not find them I found a mountain of evidence against it. I pretty much know the bible like the back of my hand.

The proof we need is anything that is demonstrable pertaining to your God. Things like the bible, miracle claims and faith are not considered evidence because it can't be scientifically tested. And if it's enough for you then you're just plain gullible.
I don't know how many times I've said this but ATHEISM IS NOT NOR HAS IT EVER BEEN A RELIGION NOR WILL IT EVER BE A RELIGION. Atheism is a lack of belief in a god or gods that it.
And to get to your point of how religion has done more good than harm is laughable. Do 5 minutes of unbiased research and out find an overwhelmingly amount of atrocities in the name of religions.
And finally if we don't challenge the way people think then we won't change and stop progressing as a society.
