Without a doubt. But that's not the point. They're asking why no-one does this anymore. I'm obviously not the only one who doesn't find this appealing, or we would indeed see it more often.

Oh, I agree. But the misanthrope in me thinks that, on a global scale, that's what it takes, if we want to continue as a species. This globe can't support ten billion people and their insatiable need for natural resources.
