Draw full of books taking up 95% of the space under mine, which will be pretty concerning if it turns out the Vashta Nerada aren't just one of the Steven Moffat's terrifying fever dreams.

A few of the cast members mentioned in interviews that in some crucial scenes he wasn't even on the set at the same time with the people he was interacting with. They filmed the scenes desperately, sometimes with different actors or just stand ins so he wouldn't even know the full context of a scene he himself was in after filming it. After some slip ups with his first movie they took NO chances.

The fire thing is accurate, it also allows us to maximize nutrients gained from food which helps us grow faster, larger, and smarter than wild animals. However the use of external resources for energy and heat is not unique; there are plenty of animals that have tactics for protecting or climate controlling themselves ranging from digging burrows (mice, polar bears, kangaroos (ok, roos more dig ditches but the point stands) etc.), building structures (beavers, ants, spiders, bees, etc.), or using other creatures as protection usually by hiding or laying eggs in fresh carcasses (wasps, flies, rats, wolves, hyenas, etc.).

Most apex predators would fair better than humans if dropped in an unfamiliar environment, and we aint got shit on smaller organisms in terms of numbers. What sets humans apart is our ability to create and manipulate tools, and our ability to communicate complex knowledge to each other and across generations.
Most life forms are limited by their biology to remain within their niche without generations of adaption allowing them to expand or change. Humans can use tools to allow us to participate in almost any niche we wish to (simple tools allow digging, mining, or climbing, complex tools allow extremum environment habitation such as submarine or outer space).
Additionally, humans are unique in that we can retain information long term through writing, without having to have it evolve into our biology the way pretty much every other creature on earth does.

Boomer humour: I hate my wife.
Millennial humour: It's not that I don't love my wife, it's just that I just love my LEGO Star Wars USC 75252 Imperial Star Destroyer slightly more.

Cats scratching is like dogs barking: if it does if often, you're either mistreating it or didn't train it properly.

"It seems the height of pagan vanity to drag your conscripts to their death along with you, but as I integrated into their presence, I began to observe the reasons. Every day, a different set of draugr would awaken, shamble their way to the sarcophagus of their priest, and prostrate themselves before it. Several hours of this, followed by a meticulous cleaning of the area." ~excerpt from "Amongst the Draugr" by Bernadette Bantien.

It's not perspective, it's just the Netherlands. While the road (the A6 motorway) does run below water level, it's not actually the ocean but "just" a large lake (IJsselmeer).
Building below sea level is kinda their thing.

As far as I could find out, cats cannot see infrared. It's also highly unlikely a common webcam is emitting infrared.
I do not, however, have an alternative explanation.

The car being fucked was most likely just the car itself having a hissy fit. It's pretty established that the thing literally had a mind of its own, and with that level of magical enhancement it's probably not the battery nor the engine keeping it running.
However I was wondering about Colin Creevey's camera, which would have had a flash capacitor in it. He hardly seemed to have the magical know-how to provide a magical alternative, and it wasn't until a ways into the book that he figured out that he could make his polaroids move.

Unless I'm mistaken, magic fuckery only affects electronic devices. This only happens in places where there is a high amount of "magic in the air" although given that the ministry of magic is in the dead center of London, I would assume they can do something to control that, they just don't bother in remote places like Hogwarts.
Regardless, mechanics, clockwork, hydraulics, etc, should all work within Hogwarts. They do have clocks, after all.
