But all modern air craft are equppied with Glass cockpits so the ban (which was recently lifted) has been out dated for some time. The reason for the take off and landing still being around is, those are the most critical phases of flight and they dont want the potential projectials around the cabin (same reason your bags have to go UNDER the seat).
