Except we don't ask for a cheque (observe the spelling). We say "Bill please" because we want to pay the bill for the food.

In 1906: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Today, there is a website on "How to Trigger Boomers". Sigh.

6 grain silos in Victoria Australia, spread out over 200km. Absolutely stunning art work on each of them. I can't add the link, but if you google silo trail Victoria you'll find them.

Sorry to US wait staff on here. My 15 year old daughter in Tasmania, Australia just started her first waitressing job. She gets $15.03 per hour. No tips required. Value of Aussie dollar is not that different to the US, but we do charge $4.95 for a coffee.

When my kids ask me why I don't like saying "F*** you" I tell them it's because its a lazy way to insult someone. This proves my point. Priceless.

Fawlty Towers: the origin of the phrase "This hotel would be so much more efficient if it weren't for all these stupid guests". There's no way a show like that would get permission today, so amazingly politically incorrect but still one of the funniest shows ever.

Years ago, some TAFE colleges in Australia (trade schools, not university but tertiary education) ran free childcare centres staffed by students studying Childcare courses, giving the students supervised work experience and mothers a chance for an education. Given the profit margin of universities and colleges, rostering students of Education to run similar childcare should be a feasible option.
