Here's how:
"Oh this is an exciting new book, how about I read the first chapter to see what it's about"
"Damn that chapter was really good, just one more to see if there's going to be a sudden plot twist"
"Oh no, a cliffhanger. Well I can't leave it there, just one more chapter"
2ish hours later...
"Wow. That book was amazing, I wonder if it's a part of a series....?"
Then it turns out it is. You tell yourself you'll only read one chapter, only one book. But then it's too late. 11 hours later you've read all the books in the series and are a bleary eyed mess.
