The producers of the movie confirmed that he will be blue and mostly CGI in the movie (a small segment being "human"), but the marketing team wanted to sell more magazines and kept him recognizable so that even if people aren't going to watch it, they'll at least look at the front page and go, "Oh it's Will Smith" and buy it. It's for similar reasons in the trailer as well.
