It is said that divers have entered the strid before, either to explore or to search for people that have fallen in. I reckon you could take a swim in it if you have the right equipment; however, the undercurrents are still extremely deadly.

I recently went on a procrastinary tangent regarding the Bolton Strid.
.
Apparently it has a 100% mortality rate if you fall in, because:
1. it is a vertical river estimated to be 65 m (>213 ft) deep.
2. with many carved out rocks underneath which will bash your skull in or trap your body.
3. the top rocks create an overhang.
4. they are also covered in slippery moss.
5. the water is so airated (unsure spelling) that you cannot achieve boyancy which further prevents you from coming up.
.
It also raises 1.5 m (5 ft) per minute when it floods, causing the death of a newlywed couple in 1998.
.
There was a guy who sent a GoPro down there, and even the bottom waters contain air bubbles, indicating the flow strength and turbulency.
.
If you check the videos, it's this tiny innocent river. The name comes from being able to leap over it in one stride.
.
However, it's the 40 ft Wharf concentrated into this 2 m (>4 ft) narrow gulley so it's super strong and deadly.
