My great grandfather had one he raised from infancy. He was hunting (during the depression and the hunting everything in the country because they fed everyone who couldn't support themselves). Anyway he killed a raccoon and only after realizing it was a nursing female, so he went in search of her kit. He found the baby, took it home, named it Jojo, raised it. He had run of the house and land. He'd go out at night and my great grandmother would leave fried eggs in the oven for him to eat when he came back in. After that no one was allowed to hunt raccoons on their land.

The only one of mine who really "talks" (complaining about the untimelyness of food serving not included) is our newest addition, Mystery, who is also the only girl cat. True, but that's an individual issue (or individuals WITH issues). I live in Vegas, and after the Oct 1st shooting there has been a stupid number of people flocking to the shooting location and even the fuckers home out of that macabre curiosity/obsession. I guess having that (which I would classify as a dark tourism location in a way) compared to Auschwitz just hit the wrong way. Also, I've been around too many people lately that seriously need a visit to that memorial because they either don't comprehend the gravity of the Holocaust or they flat out believe it didn't happen and they were just POW camps that history exaggerated drastically.

I wouldn't classify Auschwitz as "dark tourism". It's history. And an extremely important part of history that can NOT be allowed to be forgotten. Dark tourism would be places of tragedy yes, but Holocaust memorials go WAY beyond that
