im not good with computers. This is just bits I've picked up on my own
Check Task Manager. End whatever keeps running in the backround. Whichever process is reeeeaally big.
diyrogue · 6 years ago
Nothing is ever open in task manager and there's a bunch running in processes but nothing over 0.2 MB/s, and even then that's only like 5 things, everything else shows up as 0 mbps

Hmm. Leave it on but walk awat for a while. That's about all I've got. Sorry dude.

Alright. Well, if it gets better, let me know.

Check what programs run at startup. Disable those that you don't need.

Scan for viruses

If there isn’t really that much on there you can wipe the computer and start again

Could it be backup software like dropbox or acronis?
pitty · 6 years ago
My dad fixed a computer by wiping it completely, but since you alreay did a reset..you might want to take it to Geek Squad

How old is the computer?
diyrogue · 6 years ago
How would I check what runs at start up?
I've scanned for viruses many times already. Found nothing.
I've factory reset it because it was going slow before but maybe I can try again?
And what's Dropbox and acronis?
And the computer is about 3 years old, I only got it this January from a woman who kept it in her closet because it didn't have the functions she needed. And it was working fine until like July but that's a long story.

We might need that long story to help you

Basically a few months ago Microsoft did one of their " you can do it now or in 14 minutes, no its ands or buts " mandatory updates and so I let it update and when it restarted it said a drive was missing? And so I called Microsoft and they said the only thing I could do was get a recovery USB. My bf bought one from them and gave it to me then when I tried using it it was apparently defective and rather than send me a non defective one they tell me I had to make my own, so I made one and bf got the new one to work after Microsoft didn't know HOW to get it to work, and so my computer was fine for a few days, all I'd downloaded was Firefox just incase something happened and after a couple weeks it started going insanely slow to the point it took a literal hour to turn on, so I did a factory reset, but it reset to the previous windows and did the " missing drive " thing so I had to deal with getting the recovery USB to work again. And I finally got it to work and here we are now

I'd say ask Microsoft for another drive and hope this one isn't defective. I know yours may have worked but the Microsoft ones may have necessary data to make your computer run faster.
