I could see where it would be useful, like if someone wanted to exchange emails their only safe option is to go to some old random post and write comments to each other and hope nobody sees it

I mean obviously it could be used to harass people, but that’s done quite easily in the comments, too. There’s a few people here I wouldn’t mind getting to know a little better but I’m not one to spam the comment section of posts just for that purpose.

In all honesty, I actually prefer it this way. Sure, sharing sensitive info can be an issue. But if some wants to talk shit to me, this way they have to do it publicly. They can't hide.

I really trust the FS community. But I am aware of the flamers and trolls that live here too.

I've never used it personally but pretty sure the "Share contacts" button located on people's profiles is to bypass the need of private messaging on here

I'd like it too, but maybe if you got a message from someone you'd need to accept a message request or something first before they can keep sending you messages. Too, block users from messaging you but only with good reason, like a spammer or troll.
