Someone recommended the app to me, however it asks for SSN, I don’t trust it, and I checked online, however I couldn’t find anything helpful on it. Is it a good thing, or a pyramid scam?

What is this thing you talk about, my friend?

I know very little. Basically, it links to your bank account, and when you spend money - say $4.30, it rounds that up to $5. It takes the change, and moves it to savings.
It seems sketchy to me, however I’ve heard that it is really good.
I’ve checked many places online, but none give a satisfying answer.

I would not trust anything that requires my SAN, then again I'm kinda paranoid about anything requiring my information unless it was the government

Same, and even then

I trust no app. That said- Acorns is legitimate and well reviewed. I know several people who have used it without issue. I doubt the company themselves is a danger to stealing your info- the trust is in trusting that they can keep your data safe from hackers who know acorn has financial and personal information of many people and isn’t as secure, large and well funded, or regulated as a bank. That said- it’s a US law. Any digital financial transfers require SSN. even setting up amazon pay will require it. It’s meant to fight terrorism through better tracking of money online. That said I don’t think acorns is worth dealing with. It’s $1-3 a month for the service as is. When you look at the returns you can expect they are likely not worth it. Imagine if you just set that same amount aside plus the extra $1-3 a month. Get a real Roth or 401 for retirement, and save your money in a high yield savings until you have enough to invest if that’s your goal. The real winner with acorns is accorn

Thank you. I’ll poke around a bit more, but this is the answer I was looking for. I figured as much, thanks again

No worries. Best of luck. Also- apologies to assume your finances. For some people the app does make sense.

I’ve never used it, I have no need for it actually, but my friend has this promotional-type deal, where if he gets people to use it something or rather bonus thing.

Ah. I gotcha. I’m always down to help a friend. Up to the point that help requires me giving out my SSN. Lol. Well- depends on the friend I guess. Some friends I might go that far, most would get a text saying tough luck.

Haha same, however it would benefit me as well, but I was skeptical.

I use Acorns. I like it. The company is legitimate and I'm satisfied that they take their data security seriously. Sure, they could get hacked themselves, but the company itself is legit.
Just do your maths first, and make sure you have enough in there to justify your investment: depending on what portfolio options you settle on, there will be some minimum amount you need to maintain before your monthly return is likely to be higher than your monthly account fee. In my case it's about $125. Any less than that and the app will cost me more to use than it makes for me. I believe that's where the company makes a good deal of its profit.

Okay. Thanks
