I think that’s just people in general, not just Americans, although most people I know are willing to have civil discussions

It’s because people want to be valid in their beliefs, so then when no one agrees, they get hostile. Or it could be the enemy mentality, you always hear Conservative VS Liberals, just my 2 cents though.

You can be valid in your beliefs, but still be civil to people who don’t agree with you. My friend literally told me yesterday that all Democrats are idiots and disgusting human beings. It’s just such an ignorant way of thinking. Idk I’m definitely in the middle and hate the political parties, but I’m always open to hear what other people have to say.

Is this seriously what you people believe? Most people on both the political left and right research views on both sides from what I’ve seen, the problem isn’t ignorance, it’s that people are stubborn and refuse to work together on a solution to the problems. People on both sides are educated but stubborn, not ignorant.

A lot of people are not educated, unfortunately many people are incredibly ignorant

@domoclan12, exactly

Someone's gotta be right, and most often, it's not about who's right from a more logical and thoughtful standpoint, it's about YOU being right.
dash224 · 6 years ago
@domoclan12 It is definitely ignorant if you only listen to people who have the same beliefs as you.
domoclan12 · 6 years ago
@yimmye you’re absolutely correct, there are a lot of uneducated people and we could all agree on that, but I’m saying the majority aren’t ignorant, but rather stubborn. And I’m not trying to argue with this, just clarify my point btw
domoclan12 · 6 years ago
@dash224 actually I feel that situation would be a balance of both, those people are usually the extreme ends of the political spectrum and thus the reason they’re often discredited by the other members.

Okay that’s fair

I think because the American political system allows for only two parties, whose positions have to be pretty much opposite, it creates a lot of tension and such like "if you're not with us, you're against us," and doesn't leave much room for middle ground or compromise.

Two things and i think they were mentioned but
1. People dont want to admit they're wrong its embarrassing and uncomfortable which makes sense. People also cement their identity into political opinion which also is difficult NOT to do. So when some disagrees with you its like they are attacking you personally
2. Definitely the "enemy" complex and it pisses me off. People are obsessed with demonizing the other side to make themselves more legitimate.
Side note. I dont like the two party system. I like how in Europe there are multiple parties. 3 or more or no real legitimized party.
