publius_cornelius_ · 6 years ago
Well to me the whole situation seems weird.

Having saying that, I wish I could help you.

Nah, it's aight, I guess, we'll have to see what we can do. Honestly, I can't believe this is legal tbh.

Wait, what? They don't issue credit cards to lawyers? How are they suppose to shop or make any payment that can't be done in cash for that matter.
deleted · 6 years ago
Also, you are a lawyer? Noice.
la · 6 years ago
No, but my father is. Also lawyers can get debit cards but not credit cards, credit cards always get rejected, it's company policy. No bank in India issues credit cards to lawyers.
la · 6 years ago
I'd buy the stuff using debit but I can't fron international sites.

This is shite.

Centralized banking structures allow for this sort of thing. I know everyone loves to poke fun at cryptocurrency but it was invented for this very thing. Decentralized currency is inherently fair to everyone.

Don't know if this helps you guys or not - microloans for lawyers in India

It's not any policy.. just unwritten rule.. fearmongered I think..
la · 6 years ago
Thanks for trying wong but we don't really need a loan. Also, when they reject the application they write that it's company policy.

That sucks. Sorry to hear it. I don’t know enough about Indian law to get too creative. Speaking from a US perspective I could see suing them if they literally wrote they refuse to serve you because you’re a lawyer. In the US a credit application asks your job and your income. They can’t really verify your exact job- just that you work where you say you do, and the income can be verified through the tax bureau. If it’s simillar there I’d get a part time job (that I’d quit right after), pay $50 to form a fake company and make myself an employee, or just take some random contract job. Then I’d list that as my job and not mention being a lawyer. It isn’t a lie as that really is one of my jobs, they can confirm it, and my income will show on my taxes. Another option that might be possible but hard (easier of you travel) is to purchase or secure like a prepaid Amex over seas. Maybe pay pal?

I just asked a lawyer friend of mine.. he said there is nothing of such.. probably the bank you are trying, is duping you

Really? https://www.legallyindia.com/201110112379/Bar-Bench-Litigation/lawyers-shunned-by-financial-institutions-mahagoa-bc-starts-up-lending-microfinance-bank
This is from 2011 but it's still very much a thing. None of the lawyers dad knows have been able to get a credit card. Also, I think that you are required to fill out your occupation. I don't know if dad is willing to get a part time job for a loophole tho (dunno if it even works). I don't think paypal works with the site? I mean, it accepts it, but we had a transaction error and our order got canceled

I think that they might reject most but keep a few because something like https://m.economictimes.com/industry/banking/finance/banking/icici-bank-fined-rs-10-lakh-for-denying-credit-card-to-lawyer/amp_articleshow/2767962.cms might happen? If they had absolutely no lawyers then it would be absolute proof that they deny credit cards to them? I guess.
