You are going to have to define older day cartoons. Are you talking Catdog/Courage the cowardly dog or are you talking Jetsons/Flintstones?

Yeah. I agree with aforementioned comment. Also, what do you want us to discuss, the animation, the storylines, the social relevancy etc?

Sib you should just tell them your Question so they can make their answers more specific.

So I love rick and Morty. I think it's the best animated series I've ever watched and this is a list that comprises the Simpsons, transformers, gijoe, freakazoid, the tick, xmen and batman the animated series.

My question isssss: “In the last five years, have cartoons been influenced/inspired by the creator's childhood?” But I have a few sub questions mostly based on popularity of recent cartoons, GF, SU, etc.

I think it’s a larger question. What ideas from our minds, and to what degree can we say anything is or is t influenced by our childhood? By most current interpretations of human develepment, childhood experiences can have powerful effects on whonwe become as adults, and shape us through our entire lives in ways we can’t even realize. When you look at a show like gravity falls for example: it carries a sense of child like wonder and adventure, and innocence and curiosity, and a very tangible belief most often found in children that the world contains possibilities beyond those we recognize in daily routines. Steven Universe seems to be more of a lens. While it appears informed by childhood, often times the lessons appear to be the application of adult wisdom to the dilemmas of a child. More like what as an adult many wish they had the courage or sense of self to do as a child. The common ground in these cartoons is just the experience of youth. In those two examples there is too...

... much sincerity for me to believe that they are simply being created as a fiction of childhood- the emotions are genuine, and unless the creators are either very in touch with the hypothetical childish mind within, or reacting in actual fashion and have stunted emotional perspective, or simply basing every single action off of observing children- I would have to say that to some degree they must be tapping in to at least the emotional memories of childhood, the state that they can recall being a child was like. To some degree I have to conclude that they must be drawing on some elements of their childhood to create shows like that- even if it is merely a “roadmap” to the vulnerability and innocence of childhood as opposed to specific memories based off a given experience.

I mean I've got a ton of evidence supporting the argument that majority of cartoons are influenced by the creators childhood, Gravity falls, Steven Universe, Craig of the creek, etc are all inspired by childhood or events taking place in their childhood. But you really brought a lot to the table! :D
