So, long story short, I got a massive task for english coming up (2000 words and worth 40% of the grade), which involves comparing and analysing two books, stories, movies, song lyrics, all that sorta stuff. Problem is, I don't read much in English, just because I rarely find anything worthwhile, so I have no real options here.
So, I'd like you guys to post suggestions on what would be good books to analyse in terms of the regular school bullshit - themes, techniques, explaining every single miniscule detail, even if it's completely obvious, that sorta stuff. Preferably something sci-fi and not too long, since even a short story would suffice as long as it has some deep meaning to dig into and it does something interesting to express it.
P.S. my first idea was to look around on somewhere like r/writingprompts and while I did find a bunch of interesting stories, none of them really qualified.

Flowers for Algernon is short, but you could talk forever about it. It's a journal of someone who starts dumb and becomes hyper-intelligent, so there are a lot of intentional spelling errors. That could confuse some people, but it seems like you have an excellent grasp of English.

Try Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane. It's a true story, maybe not sci-fi but excellent. I read it for my Honors Eng class and was able to complete everything she assigned. There's more than enough of a plot that you can analyse, a bunch of characters, and actual places.

Btw, the nice thing is, it doesn't matter how popular or well-know the material is, you can literally pick anything as long as you can analyse it.

great gatsby is the easiest thing to analyze f. scott fitz literally just like set off an analogy bomb of symbolism like green light? BOOM ex girlfriend no joke and also animal farm is just analogies and symbolism of the russian revolution and if you know a bunch of stuff about that era the dots are very easy to connect and it is easy to read, its one of the very few things my friend who hates reading liked to read, and since there is so much symbolism they might be easy to compare

or do like the first and last books/episodes/movies of a series you like and compare how they are different in terms of style, professionalism, true to the whatever it was based on, etc

Flowers for Algernon is great for assignments like this. It’s short and pretty simple to grasp on the surface, which makes it easier to delve into deeper analysis. I could honestly talk forever about that story.

Do Anthem. Its only 160 pages I think and it's post-apocalyptic. I cant really give a description without giving the ending away
