Okay, I just checked the IMDB page and obviously they have have done some... liberties with characters. That's cool, I was just surprised for a second. DJs death is sort of what the entire first book is launched off of. He was also the Asian girls (Terry in the books) brother.

Yeah this isn't really faithful to the books. No movie is in one way or another.

I got the feeling early on it wasn't going to be even remotely, names aside, but that doesn't really matter.

But was the shark big and doofy

Actually it was fairly scary.

It even managed to get me a few times, and I'm a seasoned horror vet.

I know a lot of people were pissed she wasn't albino, because they said she wouldn't be as scary. I think it would have made her less scary. Was it more jump scares or more intense

It was an action movie peppered with effective jump scares.

And a giant prehistoric shark. What more could you possibly ask for in a movie?

Was it based loosely on a book going by the same name? Mac was the name of a character in the books.

It was only just sort of loosely based on the books. There really wasn't the time to due the full material justice. Its like they took a rough outline, Jonas Taylor, hero, Asian father/daughter research sort of (they are Chinese rather than Japanese, no sanctuary at all, Terry is Suyin and has an 8 year old daughter), they have the whole undiscovered ecosystem below the thermalcline. But that's pretty much it. His wife was his ex, and not only wasn't she a vapid bitch, you actually like her. Meg isn't pregnant (that we know of), so no Angel. DJ is a black guy who works on the research station. But, despite all the changes, its a pretty good movie, humorous without bring stupid, tense and a bit scary without being a gorefest.

I should go see it then.

When you say Meg, you mean a character named Meg, or the Meg?

Meg is what the first megalodon is referred to in the books, as well as the name of the first book. I just can't break the habit of calling the movie and the shark Meg, no the.

I just watched it
....
WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL THOSE POOR WHALES!?
I love whales, such beautiful, peaceful, loving creatures
deleted · 5 years ago
Because it's a classic trope of Megalodon that it eats whales.

I cried okay!
No one cried but I did! The moment I realised what happened (the mother is dead), I had tears in my eyes and when the Meg bit the baby, I lost it and started sobbing
The poor helpless creatures that had never done anything wrong in their lives
... I'm sorry
I just have so many feelings

I knew the second they first introduced those damned adorable mother and baby they were going to do that, so I was braced, and I refused to watch.
