1. How old are you?
2. How far away is the date of the trip?
3. How much money are you lacking?
09deadinside_ · 5 years ago
@metalman 1. I prefer not to say my age but I am in my teens
2. Some time next summer (most likely the beginning of summer)
3. We’re not exactly lacking money they just want to save for college and this is only for me to go so they don’t think it is worth the money.

Where in Europe is the trip?
metalman · 5 years ago
If you're under the age of 17 I'd side with your parents just my opinion.
My point of asking how much money is if you get a part time job and raise the money yourself your parents may, mine wouldn't as he was too strict as is, allow you to go as you've shown how responsible and mature you are.
What's the point in going? To just say you've been to Europe or is there a practical reason to go. What will benefit you, if anything, in the long run?

@laughwendylaugh Paris, London, & Rome
@metalmen It is supposed to be educational. It also gives credit and such in high school or college

If you can go, I really think you should go. There's so much more than what's in our backyards. Learning about cultures and other country's history will give you a perspective most people don't have. As far as it being not safe...sounds like it's riskier for you to stay in school with all of the shootings that have been happening :/

@laughwendylaugh yeah...they said no. I completely agree with you though!
laughwendylaugh · 5 years ago
@09deadinside Did they give you reasons for saying no?
09deadinside_ · 5 years ago
@laughwendylaugh yeah they said there will be many more opportunities to go with them.
Otherwise they don’t want me going cuz of safety issues since they’re rlly overprotective...

@09deadinside Did you ask when you were going as a family? lol! Call them out on it in a respectful way. Personally, I don't want to travel with my family again if I can help it. We have different interests and they will randomly start yelling at me about picking something so I do and then they complain about it. Ugh! They're so weird. Plus, parents need to cut the cord at some point.

@laughwendylaugh haha same lol. We won’t be going for a loonnnngg while until my grandparents pass away cuz they don’t wanna go somewhere else other than visit our grandparents in their home country while there still here.

@09deadinside Yeah...that issue happened last year when I was 39. Be ready to deal with that for the rest of your life. :( I guess you're going to have to get yourself a job and pay for your travelling yourself. The independence is totally worth this.

Basically the same is happening with me and the Washington/ DC trip, its more affordable than the Europe one and there is still the problem of my mom being overprotective, saying that she barley lets me go to the farmers market with friends.
09deadinside_ · 5 years ago
@hydrofalcon omg same my mom won’t even let me walk to farmers market cuz of kidnappers and such like mom no
laughwendylaugh · 5 years ago
Apparently there's actually a problem with parents not giving their kids some freedom like this. When the kids go off to college or university, they don't know what to do and end up not being able to handle being on their own away from home. I can't tell you how many kids I've seen having to move out of the apartment building or quite school because they can't handle Mum and Dad being around to tell them what to do and how to do it.

@laughwendylaugh yeah I agreeee

Same. I talk to my friends about it and they think how my mom isnt letting me have fun and stuff. I told one if my friends about how I’m not allowed to download games on my phone and they were suprised on how strict my mom was and how compared to them I don’t have any freedom.
hydrofalcon · 5 years ago
I try to talk to my mom about it but then she just comes back and yells at me about the stuff I just said, bringing up her end of the argument, even if I say straight facts and site my freaking sources in an argument, because she’s the adult she’ll just end up saying “well there my rules and I’ll do what I want with them” it’s just really frustrating. A couple months ago to get a game I really wanted I had to send her a freaking paragraph long text that was basically an essay (that I sited sources from known articles)to get her to consider letting me get the game. The game was free.

(Sorry for rambling but I just relate to a lot of stuff and need to vent) finally she wouldn’t let me get any games with violence or guns. I finally I convince her to let me get overwatch with my own money, but then when I wanted fortnite (the most cartoonish non realistic shooter game in the world) she said how by “getting a shooter game where you kill people” I already broke her rules about video games and she wouldn’t break them again.

@hydrofalcon wow ok I can relate to the part where they don’t let me get apps tho, my parents set up my phone and my personal iPad so that whenever I try to get an app, I have to press this button that sends the request to them and they fill out their apple id so it’s rlly annoying. They also have this app where they can pause my WiFi flow and cellular data stuff. About the shooting and killing I don’t normally want games like that so that’s not one of my limits.
