Why do people hate fortnite so much? It seems harmless to me

In all seriousness though I think people hate it because it attracts a crowd of children who are menaces to society and it perpetuates it. Parents will give their child something to shut them up and in the process creates the next generation of useless, annoying people.

In seriousness, though, it was a kind of a bizarre trend. PUBG came out and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Then Fortnite came out, which was pretty much identical, except more cartoonish, and walls-ex-machina were everywhere, and people seemed to go nuts for it. Now it seems it's reached a point of becoming TOO popular and, as underfire pointed out, a lot of parents use it to babysit their kids. I haven't been too invested in finding out what's going on, but near as I can tell it seems to be that it's mimicking the toxic levels formerly mostly found in call of duty-- immature kids, mixing with immature adults (<- not referring to everyone who plays it btw, just that there are immature adults who play it), and the end result from what I've seen implied so far is kids who are obsessive, whiny, rude/offensive beyond all reason, or some combination of the above

My boyfriend just hates it because everyone that was playing PUBG went to play that instead when PUBG appears to be a more mature game. I think it’s the aesthetic that makes it appear juvenile

pubg's downfall is gonna be its business model. They went with "making more cosmetics and stopping dev of actually bugsfixes and gameplay. A few months ago i would have said pubg was the better game but its slowly falling into a worthless game.

Not to mention fortnite is 100% free to play, even if pay for nice shit.
I just tried the sandbox mode on my switch today. It's alright, had some fun times, was against a kid and yeah he could be a bit obnoxious but it made me have more fun bc I was just fucking around lol. Especially as I had no voice chat while he did, so I could only communicate with jumping, crouching, and my 1 dance emote.
...I may or may not have gotten 2 decently impressive kills as well. What can I say, I'm good with the plunger I guess

I think yeah part of it is toxicity and i think everyone just hates the top game on the market no matter what. Like pubg really got most of its ideas from h1z1 and multiple games were coming out as battle royale course fortnite took some things but adding building was brand new idea in games like good building not minecraft bull shiz this building was sleek fast and sped up and made combat different from anything we have ever played before. I mean call of duty was the same way it wasnt that bad but a lot of people hated on it and halo was much the same. Like I dont even run into miked up people in fortnite. The few i have run into little kids was only a one time thing. I personally dont understand where all the hate comes from like a lot of fortnite is dying rumors too even though i dont see it dying at all.
