I'd definitely go to a computer store and get them to test it with a charger they have before jumping to conclusions and redownloadibg stuff

Ok,
1.) Don't remove any drivers.
2.) Do what Jay said.
Try a different charger,

There are a couple internal components that have to do with charging and using the device on battery power. Don’t let them sell you a battery or charger without being able to return them. I’ve bought brand new batteries for laptops, they will fully charge, and within a minute of unplugging it the laptop shuts down from low power levels.

It could be a keyboard shortcut that disabled charging. I'd check that first.

Also, is your AC adapter the same one that came with this laptop?

I assume your laptop is a Dell? Those are typically the ones that have this trouble. You can check out some common troubleshooting steps at the link below. Don't update the bios, but feel free to do anything else. And please reinstall the driver you uninstalled! It'll return your battery info to the systray. Let us know if anything weird happens!

The laptop is a lenovo. And with the same adapter I brought it with. Unfortunately, the laptop is now completely dead

That's annoying. 80% chance it's just the charger; 15% chance it's the battery; 5% chance it's the logic board. All your data is safe, though.

Yeah, I'll try more chargers.

example number blep of why everyone should own a voltmeter

Turns out that the internal charging circuitry fried, at this point I'm just going to get a new one for like $750

Check your chargers output anyways. It could be that the output limiters on it. That happens pretty often when a charger breaks and can be powerful enough a break to damage power parts in a laptop. I've seen it desolder the charger port from the motherboard before

Output limits on it broke*
