Listen children. Have you ever wandered onto a tennis court carrying a cricket bat? No? Well if you did and the person with a tennis racket tossed you a ball you would hit it back wouldn't you? It's all in fun anyway. And as you swapped ends and swatted the ball back and forth you would enjoy it. But eventually one of you would realize that this isn't the way the game is played and the game would become work. And as it was meant to be fun and not work, one or the other would walk away. Does that mean that either player was wrong? No. It simply means they were in the wrong game.

Well, I don't know much about your wife but maybe it's something about not reading the rules?

Light is made up of lots of rainbows all smushed together so tightly you can't see them. Glass prisms can make the rainbows split apart and get bigger like a magnifying glass, so that you can see them. The little atoms in the air are like this, and blue gets spread out a lot, so you can see blue when you look up at the sky.

Ooooh, I like that. So. After it rains when the sun comes out to dry the prisms, that why we get rainbows? And then when it's all dry we get blue again! Yayyyyy1

The clouds are made of water. And water is a prism (It's clear, and kind of reflective) and that makes the light change again, so it becomes a rainbow.
That's why you can only see a rainbow if the sun is behind you.

(plot twist if the sun is bright enough you can see 3 rainbows away from the sun and 2 rainbows around the sun)
