Quick Q: what did Zeus do?

Following this, there were several users outraged. One user in particular did some digging and posted a link revealing the website itself seemingly listed as for sale on godaddy. The implication being it hasn't been sold yet, and therefore Zeus had lied on that front, too.
*Keep in mind I do not know how godaddy works, and this was never fully verified. It should also be noted that the ads were cleaned up some, with the most egregious ones being remove. But, as you can likely see, overall the ads do still remain to this day.
'
All of this was followed by a seeming increase in site-operated posts made by bots that have been revealed as using the accounts of inactive users (some users broke down some of the characteristics of the bots for identification purposes).

The bots seemed to be largely unmoderated (and still are), and eventually lead to some other drama on that front, on which there was no intervention offered from whoever IS running the website. Any changes they make to this day they seem to do silently.
'
These are the main events to my knowledge that lead to the varying degrees of outrage at Zeus

@cotten_eyed_joe Zeus is/was a user and former owner of the website. He used to respond to tagging but since all of this occurred he has been silent

Wow, okay

There were also a lot of porn posts by outraged users... which led to a lot of people deleting their accounts because of the perception that no one was monitoring content and a lot of the inappropriate posts weren't behind sign in walls... almost getting people in trouble at work and/school.

Luckily, through the resilience of the users, the website seemed to have its content cleaned up and more user came out of the shadows and began posting fresh content. I think the community, in part, is responsible for the continuation of the integrity of Funsubstance.

I dont think I'm helping lol

You post quite a bit. Plus, you’re friendly. You’re definitely helping.

Yeah, I was trying not to dig too deep into all the backstage shenanigans perpetrated by users. But needless to say it was quite a cluster for awhile. Which wasn't entirely Zeus' fault, but he also didn't actually *help,* and the new owner is still the faceless god. So we're pretty much on our own to protect and keep this website running for the users that depend on it

You do help, cotten. You've probably posted more original content than I have, and your little drawing of the community certainly helped bring us all together.
'
You comment, which is also important.

It's more people (usually bots) posting destructive content that are the ones that cause problems

it was confirmed that the site was still up for sale. I do know how godaddy works. The listings on there have to be posted by the owner of the website and the number is the estimate of what the owner wants to sell the site for.
xvarnah · 5 years ago
Even if that's the case, we don't actually have any proof that Zeus is the one selling it. It could well be he already sold it and the new owner is re-selling it. Admittedly unlikely, but the fact remains that We simply don't know what happened, or even WHY it happened, and we likely will not get any answers for quite some time-- if ever.
'
At this point most of the remaining community seems to be able to stay focused on just supporting each other and keeping the site afloat for our own reasons, and while we may not necessarily like how we got here, it's far from the worst place we could be
catfluff · 5 years ago
Part of why the community was upset is that we do not know the new owner's privacy policy, and them logging into old user accounts with bots made us wonder how safe our information was (passwords, emails, accounts) and if it would be sold to third parties for advertising

There have been people mentioning that the bot situation predates the whole Zeus issue

There's nothing I can do if people don't believe me. No one here is entitled to decide or even know about the sale of the website despite being contributing members to this community, just as no user of Instagram or Tumblr is entitled to decide or know about the sale of the site. The inner working of FS has always required some secrecy to protect from competitors, hackers and spammers. I don't see this changing. Since I'm no longer the owner I will not disclose anything more about FS. All I can say is that the new owner is personally invested in this website.

@hyperion ...how the hell did you do this.
'
@Zeus well despite all the ugliness that's transpired, it is somewhat reassuring to hear from you, even if you're not the owner anymore. Hopefully whoever they are they get comfortable enough to introduce themselves somewhat before too long
hyperion · 5 years ago
@Zeus it's fine. I didn't mean as an owner. Thanks for replying though. Hope you're doing great. It was just sad seeing you go and not reply for a while.
