@calvinoot That's fucked up, fuck them... I'd be tempted to take something like that into civil court based on principle alone.
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
My HS had a rule against cell phones though, so I'd lose.

schools dont have the legal authority to dictate what you do outside of school functions tho
calvinoot · 5 years ago
yeah true, it was okay because we had a bunch of students vouch for the girl. I mean it's her property, you can temporarily take it away if she misuses it but you can't get her in trouble for stylizing it tho.
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
If you're a perceived threat, yeah, they do.
bethorien · 5 years ago
they cant take it away either. Legally only an officer can take items from a person.
also no schools have no legal authority to dictate the actions of their students outside of the school. if they feel something is a threat they are required to take the matter to the police. They cannot dispense punishments for things not done on school property or during a school function

most schools have a cop on duty.

most schools have a security officer that isnt actually a sworn officer of the law and doesnt have the same authority also there has to be a legal reason to take a phone away not just "they broke this school rule that isnt legally binding"

I got nearly got suspended for posting a picture of myself with a very obvious nerf gun with the caption "Don't Come To School Tomorrow #kachow"
bethorien · 5 years ago
you're lucky you didn't get investigated for insinuating that you were planning on committing murder.
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
What the fuck just happened?! Switch-a-roo much?!
calvinoot · 5 years ago
Wait most schools have a cop or security officer? What? Why haven't I met them!? All we have are the maintenance guys!
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
It surprised me when it happened at my HS as well... that was... 10th grade? But yeah, officer Tom showed up and he had his own office and shit.

there is a very definite difference between using a phone in class and posting a picture that uses terms regarding school shootings especially in the day and age where thats a heavy fear in america. The fact he didnt get investigate for that post just means that the school wasnt careful enough to tell the police about the post and only cared about looking like they were doing their job right by suspending a student that would likely take that as further reason to shoot up the school had that been the actual intent of the post.
the school cannot dicate what you do out of school but as i said before they are required to hand any information of any even low chance possible threats to the cops. That school failed its students by not doing so.
flyingoctopus · 5 years ago
That's why I wouldn't post it if I were an American, nz hasn't had a school shooting in decades.
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
Fear is blinding. There's really no difference.

What Zander has forgotten to mention is that prior to posting said caption, he decided to shave his head near-bald, and looked like a stereotypical skinhead. This, in conjunction with his wannabe edgelord humour, is why people were concerned
funkmasterrex · 5 years ago
Damn that's cold. A fucking skinhead?! seriously?!
flyingoctopus · 5 years ago
I am not a skinhead.
