What You Need:
A minimum of 2 players. Though it is recommended to have 4-5 players and 1 Dungeon Master (DM)
A Set of Dice. This includes the d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20. The d6 is a 6-sided die, for example.
If your DM is a noob, you should have the rulebooks. You can pirate them online in PDF form or make an account on dndbeyond and have access to the entire basic rules.
Character sheets. You can find them anywhere online to print off. (Or you can just make an account on dndbeyond lol)
Lots of snax
A few hours on a regular schedule

How to Play:
Step 1 is to make your character. I know I’ve said this before but making a character on dndbeyond takes you through all the steps very easily. Depending on what class you want to be, it’ll change what ability scores you choose. The six ability scores are:
Strength (Used for things like melee attacks with swords or hammers, and weightlifting)
.
Dexterity (Used to dodge attacks, pick locks and attack with daggers)
.
Constitution (Used for resisting poisons and illnesses, and counts towards your health total)
.
Intelligence (Used for casting wizard spells, remembering information like History and Nature. More on that in a moment)
.
Wisdom (Used for casting Druid spells and stuff. Also used for survival checks and being aware of your surroundings)
.
Charisma (Used for sweet-talking and resisting dimensional magic… for some reason)

Ability scores go into your skills. I won't cover all of them, just some that may be confusing.
Arcana: Your knowledge on the mystical and arcane.
History: Your knowledge on the past. (Useful for finding out about people or places that you don't know about)
Insight: Knowing whether someone is telling the truth or not
Investigation: Basically working in forensics. Looking at the small details
Nature: David Attenborough. Knows a lot ABOUT animals.
Perception: Awareness of your surroundings
Survival: Bear Grylls. Knows how to find food and track animals.

I've read through this as well! Thank you so much
Dndbeyond is actually amazingly helpful I think I just got a bit overwhelmed because I've never done this before and there was a lot more to do than I expected

Yeah, but be glad you aren't combing through 100 pages of Dnd book with very little explanation

No problem. Dnd is addictive and a great community that we love to see grow. Additionally there’s a series on YouTube called “handbook helper” made by the great critical role cast

Awesome! I'll go check that out !
