There's more than one film adaptation jsyk. There's one (possibly two) made in Japan, and then there's a Netflix adaptation
.
But yeah, anime rarely translate well to live-action movies. Partly because they have really fantastical elements and too much content to put into a coherent plot.

Also I'm not sure how the manga turns out, but just a heads up - a lot of people find the second half of the anime to be nowhere near as good as the first

I can second that.
Spoiler Alert.
After L dies, the series feels looses a lot of tension and suspense. Although it's good, it doesn't hold a candle aganinst the first half.
Also, Death Note was the first series where I felt like devastated when a side character died. I was fine with Light dying in the end, but L dying was like a dagger through the heart.

L will always be one of my favourite characters haha. I couldn't believe it when he actually died. Give kudos to the author for being daring enough to kill a main character
