A fun thing with Sanderson is that a good portion of his books are interconnected, as most of them take place in what is known as the Cosmere. You can totally read and enjoy them without knowing that, but if you are aware of it, you can pick up on a lot of little Easter eggs hidden in the books.
Sanderson is a fantastic worldbuilder, and his hard magic systems include rules that make it easy to tell what characters can and cannot do. His characters also deal realistically with heavy real-life issues such as depression, PTSD, and more. Magic is not a panacea for these issues. 3 books in, Kaladin still suffers major depressive episodes.

Here's a screenplay you should definitely check out. It's called Don't Worry Darling and it's a psychological thriller about a housewife in 50s who's reality begins to crack.

But if you're looking for something smooth and funny go for A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman.

@mastapasta: ok, here we go:
YOUNG ADULT
- Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo (as well as the rest of her YA books which I believe take place in the same universe)
- The Lunar Chronicles series, by Marrissa Meyer
- The Merciful Crow, by Margaret Owen
- Seraphina, by Rachel Hartman (has a sequel)
- Arc of a Scythe series, by Neal Shusterman
- Fairyland series, by Catherynne M. Valente (technically juvenile series, but they are brilliant, and not well enough known)
- Folk of the Air series, by Holly Black
- Wee Free Men series, by Terry Pratchett
- Pathfinder series, by Orson Scott Card
ADULT
- Shades of Magic series, by V.E. Schwab
- House of Earth and Blood, by Sarah Maas (new adult series!)
- Red Rising series, by Pierce Brown
- Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline
- Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Personal author reccomendations:
- Terry Pratchett - satirical fantasy, I love this man's books more than I can express
- Walter Moers - completely original world building!

Also, never apologize for what you enjoy. I really liked the Selection series, and I've recomended it to other adults who also enjoyed it! Kiera Cass has a new book out now that I'm reading, "The Betrothed."
Hopefully that list, and everyone else's, will keep you busy. Overdrive can be a pain if everyone else is trying to read the same thing, but the variety of reccomendations here should get you something that is available now!

I've never read the selection (don't care if people like or dislike it. You do you)

I had never even heard of it until literally the other day when I somehow accidentally ended up on a review for it. Did not make the book sound appealing at all, but the review was seemingly written by someone with a slightly better grasp on world politics than the author from the sounds of it, and as a result was highly entertaining
