Is it a town you have previously visited? I've jumped coast to coast across the US, so I can give you a lot of advice, but there are a few important things to get out of the way first.... like is it a town you have previously visited?

The first thing you want to do, before you even pack anything, is know where your mailbox is going to be. That's because of A LOT of the things @catfluff covered... but it'll also help you send stuff to yourself if you forgot anything... which comes to step 2, find a physical friend who can send stuff to you, but don't bug them too often.

After all that, calibrate directions. This can be done with a compass, but I find the Sun and the North star far more reliable. Once you do that, familiarize yourself with the roads and routes around you. Know where a hospital is, know where a fire station is, know where the DMV is, know where a courthouse is.

OOH and @catfluff made a really good point with the HOA. Check that shit and then check it again. HOA's 'are about the dickiest thing on the planet and there will be obscure regulations that make no fucking sense, but you'll avoid being pestered if you do due diligence.

Also figure out where and how you can park your car. I know it sounds dumb, but having your shit towed because you were a few minutes late to getting back to a 1 hr tow zone can be.. entirely fucked up (hello, San Francisco).

Basically you should strive to be more familiar with the town than the mayor, before you even set foot there.

I'm a fan of doing things on a whim, but don't do such a particular thing as this on a whim.

Wow....Uhm....I'm moving about 40 minutes away, I don't know what HOA is other then they sound like target practice, and holy crap this is not what I expected. Hahaha I was expecting things about services like @catfluff mentioned. @funkmasterrex You far exceeded my expectations. Haha Also, Canadian and yes, I've been to the town before. I work there. Haha I owe you guys a couple beers.

HOA = Home Owners Association

What and why?

Some towns all have to look the same to create a polished neighbourhood look or to keep renters in check with modifications

I was just gonna say like doctor and dentist stuff lol
adam44 · 4 years ago
Thanks @xvarnah. Those ideas are the reminders I was thinking of. Haha
@catfluff I have no words. I've said this often. You want control? You pay for it. I told an ex-friend. "You want me to answer my phone all the time then here's the bill asshole."

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, have you seen Banff? It's so beautiful and the last thing I'd want to see is a giant yellow M or some monstrous burger in the middle of it
.
Also: if the town you're moving to is fort mcmurray just don't do it and you're all set

Best of luck. You’re in good hands.

Well.. Canadian... watch out for bears. <_ <

And yesh... it takes A LOT to make me draw fisticuffs for murderous intent, but HOA's have their way. It's beyond using a spear or whacking with a club. It's hands.

like using a thumb as to keep track of the pulse so I know it ends.
