Thinking about starting a little series on various creatures from Northern European folklore, I might also expand to creatures in other regions too (like asian folklore), if the response is good.
If you know a little bit about the creatures I post, feel free to add to it
And I'll be starting the off with a creature that some might find familiar; the Mare (not a female horse, it's far worse)

Baba Yaga :)
There were many misunderstandings, people thought her house walked on chicken legs because of a translation issue, and she actually didn't cook children, but laying babies in the oven (turned off) was common practice for premature births in Russia. Basically an incubator.

Aw yiss!! I think someone started doing this about 2 years ago but it turned short... If we get a new series of weird creatures I'm 100% there for it!!

I suggest Storsjöodjuret, the Great Lake Monster, in Jämtland Sweden. History and folklore is quite fascinating.

Nissar och vättar is definitely on the list, Storsjöodjuret is one I didn't know about, and I will definitely look that up, and Baba Yaga from slavic folklore is absolutely worth including, this is wonderful, thanks guys

Me too. With these dark Swedish winter nights and the extensive conifer forests, it's no wonder people told these stories.

*appears in the darkness lit up by @snowbeast candle* Don't go near the pond with waterlilies at night. The Huldra is waiting.

@mr_pigeonwizard If you're looking for more Swedish horrors the Huldra, a woman beast with a hollow back who lures men to their doom, and Näcken, a violin playing spirit that cause mischief, are kinda cool.

Ooh, yeah be careful with huldra, she's rather enchanting

They are on the list, Huldra is notorious here too, same with Näcken

Are you going to address älvkvarnar/skålgropar in one of your posts?

Ooh, ancient art, I might, but I'll need time to read up on it and understand it better

I'm all for it! I kind of neglected the Mythological substance thing, so I'm all for more people posting stuff in that vein :)

I can perhaps post about it otherwise :-) It ties in to your theme but is off on an archaeological tangent - my kind of thing!
