And it's not the end of the world, it's not that big of a deal. People actually prefer Latine over latinx
deleted · 3 years ago
So latino and latina is not commonly used in the us?
xvarnah · 3 years ago
Latinx sounds like a slur
adam44 · 3 years ago
Or a prescription medication.

It is not a thing. No one says it here in Mexico at least. It sounds and feels like a slur

Want to speak spanish? Drink Latinx amigo. Your new name will be pedro. Your dad will become your padre. Your dog will be your perro.

Lol That's awesome.

Why all the hate? If people prefer this, let them be. I'm sure they have a reason. Latinx is much more efficient than Latino/Latina when you need to describe a group with mixed genders. So what if 'Latine' was there before, should we all still say 'thy', 'thou' etc. Let people be.

The problem comes from trying to say it in spanish, you cannot pronounce it. One written alternative that is actually used is "latin@"

Preference has nothing to do with the structure of a language. You don't drastically alter a language for an unrelated minority. If you don't like the language then speak something else.

"Let people be" - that literally has no application when the issue someone demanding OTHER people refer to them a certain way - and throw fits over anything seen as non-compliance.
`
Anyone trying to push something like Latinx has now orchestrated the involvement of others by trying to compel others to behave in a specific manner for no other purpose than to cater specifically to their [The "latinx" etc] wants.
`
If they do that, the people they are trying to compel are entitled to an opinion on the matter.
`
"Let people be." We were. They're the ones that demanded special attention. Now they have it.

@ignorance @adam44 Thank you for your comments. So I'm confused... who made up the term? Was it Latinos? Or other people?
deleted · 2 years ago
All I can speak for are the mexicans. I can imagine someone over here wanting to create a new term to differentiate people further, when most just want to be treated like a normal human being

I can't imagine*
