I'll go first then. Sore as hell. Had some teeth pulled and it hurts like hell without pain meds.
nicengelman · 2 years ago
They really didn't give you pain meds after having multiple teeth pulled? That's some bullshit, I hope it doesn't bother you for too long
dr_richard_ew · 2 years ago
Oh I guess if we're talking; I'm not great. Regretting some life decisions and struggling to get everything done on time.
Did they give you the option to have pain meds adam or no?
novelus · 2 years ago
I have a failing liver. Other than that, I'm good.
nicengelman · 2 years ago
Ok, looks like @novelus wins. What is going on, how are they treating you?
adam44 · 2 years ago
I was given pain meds but talking or eating negates the meds I'm taking. Plus one tooth was a 15 minute extraction so it was going to hurt regardless.
What's going on Dr?
I hope you have a plan @novelus. Are you working with a doctor?

@adam44 Well after I left college for game design (and since I failed 1 class I couldn't get my degree right there), my two options in life were to immediately find a job, probably part time bc I didn't pass like I was supposed to, and find a place to live and pay rent to all on my own, or to move with my at the time moving parents to the US (Maine) for a year and go to NMCC and study more programming to help my future career.
Now however, it seems the course I took isn't much of programming, but computer hardware and software, like IT support. I guess it IS useful information, but I'm worried that I'm spending 3k on something I don't need, only to be spat back out into canada next year with no money, no place to live, and a very small window to do the thing I was supposed to do before.

ADDITIONALLY at the end of our game design class we did a practicum for a recycling company that wanted a lil game made to teach kids to recycle. During the summer, they sent us all an email asking if one of us wanted to go finish the game for some extra cash. At the time, I had 0 plans and was looking for cash, so I accepted it. Now however, it took my boss about 2 or so months to send me the assets I needed (I've done about 30% of the work, but that was the easy stuff), and now I'm contractually obliged to finish the game now, while trying to balance a million school projects each week (I literally have not had a weekend free yet), and I gotta do it before this month ends or else my adobe illustrator will be taken from me, my mom doesn't want to spend any more money on me (she's handling my money rn after I spent all of it on tuition), and she refuses to let me pirate illustrator either

I'm just worried if everything I've chosen to do this summer up has been nothing more than one big mistake, and I'm just wasting my time, money, and mental health on absolutely nothing. Its not the worst my mental health has even gotten, but its kinda getting up there.
@novelus I am a doctor. Shall I work with you for a bit?
adam44 · 2 years ago
That sounds like school. I've noticed college and universities make students work harder with more restrictions then actually exist in the workforce. They also make you take courses that don't apply to your field and may never be useful. Keep looking for solutions, work directly towards your degree, and jump through the hoops. Once it's over you'll never have to go back.

@dr_richard_ew Don’t underestimate just how useful understanding the underlying hardware concepts are for developers. The best developers I ever worked with all had one thing in common: they started out as infrastructure support. They knew how design things realistically to optimize performance and realizability instead of just wrongly assuming you could make it go faster by putting it on bigger hardware.

Damn, you must've been high as fuck after getting them out

My plan is to work with the doctors and figure out what is causing it. So far, it is going alright. I'm still here.
adam44 · 2 years ago
Freezing took care of it thankfully.
@novelus Have you tried a dietician as well? I suggest it because I've seen doctors my whole life yet they never talk or do anything about my issues. I talked to a dietician once and made small changes to my diet. My blood flow is better, my hydration is better, and I feel better. Doctors can be good but sometimes they can be pretty damn bad.
novelus · 2 years ago
I've talked with dieticians, various doctors, and pharmacists. I've also got severe Type 2 diabetes which isn't helping. Even with the medications and insulin daily, my glucose levels are well over 200, instead of the 90 to 110 range they want me at.
adam44 · 2 years ago
Damn. Feel free to keep us updated if it helps. I'd like to know when you turn the corner and start to recover.
nicengelman · 2 years ago
@novelus does it cause any pain or nausea? I really hope that at the very least you aren't constantly suffering
novelus · 2 years ago
Nah. Just mild discomfort. I'll keep y'all posted.
