My Colosseum LEGO set. Largest LEGO set ever, but i don't get to build it til x-mas... until then I just get to stare at the box.

2nd would be my first set, which was a weird dragon chariot thing. It's what got me into LEGO in the first place.

Thank you all for your touching stories! I think it just shows that buying something personal that shows you care and listen definitely trumps all!

@nicengelman it’s from his girlfriend (me ????)

@karlboll thoughtful gifts for the win!

@scatmandingo I assume that’s similar to a Leatherman? If so, his friends all got together and got him one, also think it’s one of the best gifts!!

@adam44 I’m sorry to hear that I’m sure it’s because the wrong people were listening!

@mrscollector such a touching story, it’s those small things that we remember forever and will always be thankful for. It’s such a blessing to have people in your life that don’t just hear you, but really listen to you.

@funkmasterrex yes I thought of Lego as well because he used to have a few Star Wars editions but the prices are much higher than I seem to remember… maybe it’s import duty to my country…

@alexayla it's not so much that, it's a lot of them making sets far larger, a small amount of inflation, and licensing fees on things like star wars. It used to be 10 cents per piece, but on most sets it's actually gone down to about 8.5, as they've re-invested and increased production capacity since it's become even more popular. The licensing fees can put the price back up to 10 cents a piece for things like some Harry Potter sets, 12-15 cents per on Star Wars sets, and up to 20 cents per on Jurassic World sets. There's also what the piece is, dinosaurs will always be more expensive, and the single piece boat that floats will always be more expensive. The boat pieces in particular can plummet the piece count, not just because they have to float, but because too many pieces atop can cause it to sink, and instead of stickers they have to actually put w/e the design is into the plastic itself. Don't want the stickers falling off after the first time someone gets it wet.

Very interesting to know! @funkmasterrex I see there is also a good grey market because of it as well, maybe to be viewed as a semi-investment as well?

Sorry @nicengelman those ‘????’ Are meant to be a laughing emoji

@alexayla if you're my girlfriend then that's the best gift
scatmandingo · 2 years ago
@alexayla No, it’s just a 3in straight blade pocket knife that’s super easy to open and small enough to not need to put it on a belt. A Leatherman is a bit heavy for my taste but if he likes it you can’t beat it for usefulness.

@nicengelman ah man now you’re just saying things! Any girl would be lucky to have you (and be your gift I suppose? Although that doesn’t sound right in that sentence)
alexayla · 2 years ago
@scatmandingo ahhh I see, I think that’s awesome; simple and practical but still tasteful and useful! I will definitely have a look, thank you!

@alexayla lol the fact that I'm still single means i could really use a gift right now. I'm trying my best not to sound totally cringe hahaha

@alexayla yeah there's a whole grey market where you can find killer deals... and yard sales and such. Sometimes you find real gems cuz one's trash is another's treasure. @guest_ got me first looking around by pointing out how worthwhile Duplo is, as they can be used for bulk while keeping weight down... and most grey sales involve Duplo cuz it's just from a kid who has grown out of it. The rest of it is for rare pieces or pieces in rare colors; baby blue being extremely rare as it's most prominent in the like... doll sets (hence why they tend to cost a lil more)... so most dudes won't buy one from wal-mart or something, reducing sales. Those pieces are amazing for creating water features.

A girl gifted me a big ass chocolate on my birthday. That was pretty sweet.

I hesitated on "big ass" and got really uncomfortable.
