If you'd like some interesting sci-fi..
Eric Flints 1632 series is both funny and informative. It's about an Appalachian mining town in the US in the early two thousands that gets transported to Germany at the height of the thirty years war. Lots of history and hillbillies.
The Honor series by David Weber is really cool to. Set in the distant future where humanity has colonized most of the galaxy, a female starship captain fights to defend people from danger and herself from discrimination. Lots of cool sci-fi stuff, a few aliens and some interesting parallels to our time.
The Bobiverse series by Dennis E Taylor revolves around a man who's reincarnated as an inter planetary space probe to explore the universe and prepare worlds for human colonization. Lots of humour and some very interesting thoughts on artificial intelligence and social structures but also an easy read.

I’m not sure your tastes.
Fantasy:
- Sword Of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is a sort of “epic” fantasy tale- magic, swords, a fight against an evil empire etc.
- The Xanth series by Piers Anthony- these books are a touch more “YA friendly” tongue in cheek fantasy. It’s wall to wall puns but full of good stories and whimsical adventure. The series takes place in the magical land of Xanth where every creature and person is born with a gift for magic of some sort. The books move through the chronology and different characters of Xanth, with characters and events referencing each other, future stories referencing past books read etc.
Sci-Fi:
- really any Robert A Heinlein, but “Red Planet” and “The Rolling Stones” were always some of my favorites.
- Isaac Asimov foundation series.
- the Tripods series by John Christopher, a sci fi fantasy mix. Set in a dystopian society where humans live in villages with little technology, ruled by massive machines which walk on three legs

At the coming of age, young humans are “capped,” a tripod comes and takes the child, placing a metallic cap on their head and ushering them into adulthood. Though adulthood seems to change people… there’s more to it but no spoilers!
More sci fi:
- Frank Herbert’s Dune.
- Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams
- Most Bradbury, but Fahrenheit 451.
General:
-Charlottes Web
-Julie of the wolves
-Hatchet
-Disc World Series
-The Earthsea saga
-To Kill a Mocking Bird
-Of Mice and Men
-animal farm
Oh man. Too many good books.
