it's used by Chinese to remove redundant vapour (harmful in ancient Chinese medical theories) from your body using atmospheric pressure, darker the area seems, more serious is the syndrome. Usually people get themselves cupped when their muscle feels sour, but mostly mid-aged people lah :)
