"deez nuts" was a meme on tumblr for like a week and a half before silently returning to depths of hell from whence all memes came.

If the U.S. gay community can put up with years and years of the government effectively telling them they don't deserve the same rights and happiness as straight people, then the rest of you can put up with rainbow profile pics for a few weeks.
Also, I suspect that many of the people whining about all the #LoveWins celebrations are the same ones who criticize "social justice warriors" for complaining too much.
The best kind of zone 9 comments
guest · 9 years ago
I think posts like these are not directed at everyone who has been rejected by a friend (because a whole lot of people have been "friendzoned" and handled it graciously), but at the people who act as if they were entitled to a romantic relationship and have somehow been wronged by the person who refused them.

To be fair, most of these are probably unnamed casualties or tertiary characters. Killing off well-liked protagonists is still relatively common, but not as much as this would suggest.

Speaking as a white person, seeing complaints about "reverse racism" or whatever is like seeing the smart kid lose their shit because they "only" got a 90 on a test. Like yeah, it's not perfect, but please stop acting like it's worse than what everyone else is dealing with.

The thing is that the kid doesn't seem to be over-emotional, he's just throwing a tantrum and immediately stops when he gets what he wants. He doesn't even thank the guy who gives him the ball. He's a spoiled little turd who could easily grow up into a very shitty adult.
Also, wouldn't "tanning his butt" entail hitting him?

If anything, their age makes the fact that they've absorbed this message even more unsettling. Most kids' movies with female leads seem to end with those leads getting together with a guy, so a lot of girls end up thinking that's the main goal they should be striving towards.

You do realize that's a problematic opinion, right? I mean, if I said it doesn't seem right when a woman has a job, I'd still be sexist even if I added "it's just the way I feel" or "but personally I don't care".
Obviously I can't force you to change the way you view same-sex relationships, but I ask you to please recognize that you are in fact somewhat prejudiced against gay people.

I think not enough people understand that when someone says you are privileged, it's not equivalent to them saying you're prejudiced. I have white privilege; that doesn't mean I'm racist, it just means there may be things in my life which I can take for granted, but which a person of colour might not be able to. On the other hand, most of my friends have straight privilege while I, as a lesbian, don't. I don't hold it against them because that's unreasonable, but they don't have to think twice about, for example, holding their girlfriend's hand in public, among other things.
I am not a racist, and my friends are not homophobes. However, we are privileged, because there are problems we don't have to worry about by virtue of belonging to a certain group.

What freaks me out is how so many dogs seem to know where their owners are buried. I doubt they understand the concept of a grave, yet somehow they realize that their owner is in there. Like, can they smell them? Or is something supernatural going on?

The thing is, evolution isn't the same as the glasses analogy, because evolution isn't random. Over time, natural selection preserves what works and eliminates what doesn't.
What if, every time the glasses came closer to being complete, they stayed that way? If whenever a lens came into contact with the frame, they couldn't be shaken apart, only shaken closer together? If a screw that happened to fall into its hole would stay there, and slowly be screwed into place but never loosened? I think that if that bag was then shaken constantly for a few centuries, I wouldn't be surprised if a pair of glasses came out at the end.
Also, if I may ask, what is your view on dinosaurs? Why did they die out while smaller species lived on?

I am a different guest from the Big Bang one, and I personally don't believe in intelligent design; I do think that all life on Earth evolved from single-celled organisms. There is strong evidence that all land plants descended from single-celled green algae (their shared chlorophyll types and sporophyte/gametophyte reproductive cycles, for example), so I think that, given how long life has been on Earth, the same is easily possible for all other species. Evidence of divergent evolution, like the analogous structures in human arms, cat paws, whale fins, and bat wings, have reinforced this view for me. I think the complexity of the human body is amazing, and I find the idea that we are the apex of millions of years not only plausible, but completely fascinating and exciting to think about.
However, I don't dispute your right to believe whatever idea appeals most to you, so long as you treat others with the same respect.
