Actually it's the Wow! signal, because of what was written on the printout by the observer. The frequency corresponds to that emitted a characteristic energy change in hydrogen atom electrons. It's considered highly unlikely to come from intelligent life as it has not been observed since.

It's a good point; if you need the threat of eternal torture to prevent you from being a terrible person, then you're a terrible person.

The longbow was never meant to kill a knight in his armour, the idea was to kill his horse, leaving him trapped and easily killed with a knife through his helmet's eyeslot or under the armpit after the charge had been broken.

The unionist party keeps voting it down, which is ironic really since the rest of the UK has had marriage equality for a while now.

I'm not saying you're wrong to want it, frankly I don't care either way, the issue does not affect me nor can I affect it, what I'm saying is that ignoring the political reality of the situation comes off as little more than a child's tantrum. Including NI with RoI in this graphic would be grossly inaccurate, NI was not part of the vote as it is not part of RoI, and it does not have marriage equality. What would be better is if the graphic specified the Republic of Ireland, that would acknowledge the political situation without being inaccurate, rather than just ignoring it and in doing so become inaccurate. People have died and people have killed over this issue, at least have the respect to acknowledge the truth of the situation and argue your position in full knowledge of it instead of sticking your fingers in your ears, stamping your feet and shouting "NO! NO! NO!".

Then you are either failing to distinguish between landmasses and countries. To include Northern Ireland in this map would just be inaccurate, they were not part of the vote as they are not part of the country. Refusing to acknowledge that does nothing to help you cause. If you want things to change you must first acknowledge them as they are.

That's because the vote was passed in the Republic of Ireland not Northern Ireland. Whatever your political opinion on Northern Ireland remaining part of the United Kingdom that's no reason to make an inaccurate graphic.

Rape is a highly varied crime, as is an individual's response to it, so "all of the above".

That's not how the legal system operates though, it's not "he's guilty" or "she's lying" only, there's a huge gray area of "can't be proved either way". The only way anyone would go to prison for a false accusation is if there is hard evidence that they were lying, evidence that would only exist if it were indeed a lie.

You could also argue that the lack of penalty for false accusations allows them to continue, weakening genuine accusations by association and preventing real rapist from being brought to justice.

Strictly speaking, copyright infringement only covers distribution of the intellectual property, so downloading an album isn't piracy, uploading it is.

I think people fail to distinguish between paralytic drunk, where you're incapable of pretty much anything other than mumbling and vomiting, and lowered inhibitions drunk, where you're just more likely to do something stupid. It's already established that being drunk does not absolve you of responsibility for your actions (drink driving for example), so why should it be the case with any other choice made while intoxicated? (Not that I agree with this line of thought, I just think the disparity in legal principles is worth discussion.)

But that's my point, simple character assassination won't work, you'd have to have hard evidence of the lie; something like security camera footage of the victim in a grocery store across town at the exact time the attack was supposed to have happened. It's the same reason the prosecution rate for rape is so low, you have to be able to explicitly prove it.

The thing is, a false accusation is only confirmed if it is explicitly proven that the alleged rape could not have happened. Simply failing to prove it happened does not count as a false accusation. Therefore any accusation made in good faith are protected, only the liars can be caught out.

Just because the clothes are made to specific sizes does not mean they are tailored to a person's specific measurements, off the rack mens suits sizes come in 2 inch increments. It's no easier to standardise to defined sizes than it is to associate an arbitrary number with the exact same thing, but it would completely eliminate the ambiguity; a 32 inch waist will always be a 32 inch waist, but a size 6 can vary from size 2 to size 10 depending on the company that assigns that arbitrary number to it.

Or just abandon the arbitrary numbers and size things by length and waist/chest size circmference, like mens suits.

That paper does not provide any evidence to support it's hypothesis; the entire thing is a long "what if?" which fails to take into account any other possibilities.

I think the point was that 'normal' models often develop eating disorders in the course of their career to achieve/stay at an unhealthy size, whereas 'plus size' models tend to already be 'plus size' before they become models.

1. Contraceptives are not perfect, they can fail and/or be unknowingly misused.
2. Rights are not forefeited because of personal stupidty. Identity fraud does not become legal because someone was stupid enough to tell the nice man on the phone their PIN.

It's a punishment designed to teach them that misbehaving will not get them what they want. It does not harm the child in any way, so how is it cruel?

Do you mean how does it apply to pregnancy/abortion or why is it a right in he first place?

Look at the states in America; where sex education is abstinence-based (i.e. lies) the rates of abortion, teen pregnancy and STI transmission are all significantly higher.

Exactly. Want to lower the abortion rate? Comprehensive sex education and availability of contraceptives.
