True... but, in the case of threats such as ISIS/ISIL, the AQ, the Germans and Japanese in WW2... to not have done so would've left the US vulnerable to destruction. I'm not saying it's needed every time we're attacked, but in a lot of cases, the US and other countries are stuck for options, especially when diplomacy fails.
