Thanks, Andy. We don't know eachother, but thanks for flipping me off. Always a day brightener to be told "f$^k you" in sign.

A Women's Studies degree is not worthless. It may not give a benefit to any sort of job, but it confers legitimacy to your rants against The Patriarchy, or claims that women earn 75% of what men do (even though the figure isn't adjusted for degrees held, years on the job, type of job, etc.).
The thing is, all the women I know are pro-equality, pro-equal opportunity, etc., but they understand that some characters are fictional and still like Disney even though the movies don't portray modern real women in a realistic light.

Sweden invents a revolutionary wall that can stand against bullets 7 comments

I recall reading about a US company that developed something like this...back in 1983. The outer wall is hard, flattening the bullets, and the inner core is cushioned so it stops the bullets by absorbing their energy. However, you CAN shoot from inside to outside because the unflattened bullets aren't slowed by the damping/cushioning material, and then they go through the hard outer shell with enought velocity to still be effective if the range isn't far. It was thought that this could be useful for buildings like embassies that were sometimes attacked by mobs. That wasn't too long after "students" in Iran attacked the US embassy there and kept Americans as hostages for > a year.

I notice that nobody remembers the claim that violent games desensitizes people to violence. We may not want to beleive it, but we should argue that rather than make up something like this. Obviously, you aren't a murderer if you didn't kill someone in real life. But, we argue against the strawman instead of the actual claim.

Think about it, though. Are you going to retool everything, including your factory, to acccomodate a different system?

I've gotten a warning instead of a speeding ticket twice recently, thanks to not being a prick when pulled over. In both caes, it was where the limit dropped suddenly, and instead of doing, say, 49 in a 45 zone, I was suddenly doing 49 or 48 or 47 in a 35 zone. I could have "demanded my rights," and probably the cop would have politely handed me a ticket instead of warning.

I see that a site full of teens sure TALKS a good game. When it comes to actions, well, it's pretty hard to tell. Some of the biggest bullies I knopw are *publicly* against bullying. And some of the super-inclusive pro-gay-marriage people are really damn intolerant to anything other than hetero or gay "couples."

So, the dad feels his daugher should have been more understanding of her son...so he goes off totally on her? It's an abomination for her to disown her son, but he effectively disowns her since he doesn't have time for a b-word. It would have been better to not treat her like crap for her treating her son like crap. Undertanding/forgiveness/tolerance have to start somewhere.
But, it's always OK to hate people who are on the wrong side of current opinion on "acceptance."

Tesla was great, but even HE had to obey the second and third laws of thermodynamics. You can't have infinite free energy. Yes, you can convert matter to energy, but it's hardly free. We have nuclear reactors, and they're not free to build, plus the uranium isn't free to mione or enrich.
And you all thought he didn't get one in. 6 comments

Hold these two ideas in your head simultaneously:
1. We support individual freedom for people to do what they want,
2. We want a law that outlaws stuff we find stupid.
.
Agree that child pageants are stupid, but don't require everyone else to bahave as I think they shoild.

Why is it necessarily "hate" to notice that something is a sin? If some coworker is bragging about his mistress or about stealing company stuff, I'm going to call him on it, and that's not "hate."

That "Founders were Deists" statement is revisionist. Many of the founders attended or taught at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. Those were founded as training colleges for Christian ministers! Look it up. Also check out Washington's farewell address. He referes, not to some undefined "higher power," but specifically to Jesus as God. Except for Payne and Franklin, the Founding Fathers were strong Christians.

Plot twist: they didn't intend to kill themselves, just jump off a building with parachutes, and the husband chickened out because doing that is illegal and he didn't want to go to jail.

If you think about it, someone who thinks having a prostitute is OK is more likely to raise a child who thinks prostitution is OK.
