I am wondering if the baby was on those little cages (I don't remember what they were called)? There was no central air conditioning back then so apartments installed these cage like things to hang out the window for people to be able to sit and cool down. They got taken out pretty quickly b/c of accidents.

The title says "the onion", that's a satire news group that puts up bogus stories and facts on the internet to try and get people to think. It's mostly famous for confusing people though.
